Shy 12-Year-Old Girl Sings “Summertime” Without Moving Her Lips and Stuns Simon Cowell

hen 12-year-old Darci Lynne Farmer walked onto the America’s Got Talent stage, she looked like any other shy pre-teen. Holding a puppet named Petunia, she giggled nervously as Simon Cowell asked her questions.

She explained that she wanted to keep ventriloquism alive because “it’s not common.”

But what Darci did next wasn’t just common; it was extraordinary.

As the music for “Summertime” began, Petunia the rabbit opened her mouth, and a massive, soulful jazz voice came out. The audience gasped. Darci stood there, smiling sweetly, her lips completely sealed, while her puppet belted out notes that would challenge a professional singer.

The illusion was perfect. It genuinely looked like the rabbit was singing.

The judges were floored. Mel B sat with her mouth open, and Simon Cowell—usually the first to critique a gimmick—was beaming with delight.

At the end of the song, the crowd erupted into a standing ovation.

Mel B couldn’t contain her excitement. “You made my heart melt,” she told the crying 12-year-old. “You were brilliant.”

Then, in a moment of pure magic, Mel B slammed the Golden Buzzer, sending Darci straight to the live shows and eventually on the path to winning the entire season.
